It’s obvious, right?
It’s glaring at you.
Chances are, your first reaction is, “Wow, it’s a bunch of white men! And some of them are OLD!”
Even in the age of AI, pictures don’t lie. The Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Economic Education is, indeed, all Caucasian males, and some of those photos, being several years old, don’t even reflect the actual age of the board member in question.
But none of that is what’s wrong with this picture.
In fact, if that was your first reaction, you can be sure it was ingrained by a fascist, leftist culture, repeating the same “OMG OLD WHITE MEN!!!” over and over and over again in every medium, on every surface, through every loudspeaker, to subvert liberty and America. Indeed, this is exactly why FEE matters.
So yes, this is a trick question.
Click on each photo at fee.org/about/board-of-trustees and you’ll get a short summary of the board member’s history, role, affiliations, businesses, etc.
So at least, we get a little glimpse beyond the idiotic “gender and skin color” leftist thinking dominating our popular discourse.
But these little biographical details aren’t much deeper than dermal melanin. Some germane questions might be:
- Are the board members volunteers, or are they paid?
- If paid, how much? If volunteers, how dedicated are they to their role without financial incentives?
- How connected are they to what happens at FEE on a daily basis? Whose information do they rely on to get that perspective?
- Do some of the affiliations with other organizations create conflicts?
- What do they believe? How do they make their decisions? Who do they serve?
- Why is everything so opaque to the everyday FEE employee?
In fact, if you look at this organizational chart of FEE’s structure (from a few months ago when the new president hadn’t been selected yet), you see the Board of Trustees sitting atop the organization like Mount Olympus, gods whose whims and decisions are cast upon the lowly hoi polloi doing the actual work.
Their high priest is the Chairman of the Board, a man whose power and influence over the Foundation is probably charitably described as “unilateral,” overriding everyone below him regardless of their experience or expertise, and who filters information both ways according to his own whims.
If you can, take a minute and go through all the mini-biographies of the board, and keep this question in mind:
Are these members the best people to direct FEE, in an age where we see every institution is dominated by the rabid left, an age where media matters more than ever, and even the organization’s own stated goals are to capture and guide the youth of today?
Sadly, the only answer is “no.”
And as stated earlier, it has nothing to do with their skin color or gender, and has everything to do with the pathetic state of affairs at FEE.
